The CDC recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine and an updated 2024-2025 flu vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 and flu this fall and winter.

At this time, a flu vaccine is recommended for all individuals over the age of 6 months, with high-dose or adjuvanted flu vaccines recommended for individuals aged 65 years and older.

Advisory provides guidance for clinicians to prioritize antiviral treatment of flu in the event of reduced availability of oseltamivir (Tamiflu).

The CDC will host a webinar on Jan. 27^th that will “provide the latest information on how to prevent and respond to respiratory infections and outbreaks in LTC facilities, including how to recognize a sick resident, considerations for testing, treatment, and vaccination, and infection prevention and control measures.” The agency also continues to update resources on respiratory infections that will be helpful for nursing homes and other providers in addressing flu, COVID, and RSV outbreaks this winter.

Declaration triggers certain actions for certain DOH-regulated entities.

The guidelines include recommendations addressing 42 topics and can serve as a resource for nursing homes in the development, implementation, and improvement of their infection prevention and control programs.
