The advisory recommends maintaining a heightened index of suspicion for scabies in individuals presenting with an undiagnosed skin rash, even if characteristic signs or symptoms of scabies are absent.

SNF IPs should review the new guidance and ensure that their policies and procedures are in compliance.

The guidance stresses that anyone who is not yet vaccinated or under-vaccinated for polio should get vaccinated, particularly if they live, work, attend school, or have frequent social interactions with communities in Rockland and Orange counties.

Surveillance for poliovirus is continuing, and provider assistance is a vital part of that, as are reminders to patient populations about vaccination. DOH will also be making multiple edits and additions to its polio website in the coming days.
