DOH Reminds Nursing Homes to Check Their PPE Stockpiles

(Oct. 1, 2024) The Department of Health (DOH) issued a notice to nursing homes on Sept. 30th reminding facilities of their obligation to maintain a 60-day stockpile of personal protective equipment (PPE). The notice advised facilities to "immediately assess your nursing home’s compliance with this requirement and assure that staff have ready access to PPE."

LeadingAge NY was informed that the notice arose out of concerns that the port workers' strike by the International Longshoremen's Association may disrupt the supply chain of PPE. As always, nursing facilities should ensure that their stockpiles comply with statutory and regulatory requirements at Public Health Law section 2803(12)(a)(ii)(B) and 10 NY Codes, Rules, and Regulations (NYCRR) section 415.19(f).

Questions or concerns regarding this notice may be sent to DOH via email to covidnursinghomeinfo@health.ny.gov.
