PEPPER Reports for Q4FY15 are Available
The Q4FY15 release of the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Program for Evaluating Payment Patterns Electronic Report (PEPPER) with statistics through Sept. 2015 is now available for download through the PEPPER Resources Portal.
Access to PEPPER reports is limited to the Chief Executive Officer, President, Administrator or Compliance Officer of your organization. One of those individuals should apply for access to obtain the facility reports. The Secure PEPPER Access Guide provides instructions and the information required to authenticate access. A patient control number or medical record number from a claim for a traditional Medicare FFS beneficiary with a "from" or "through" date in Sept. 1-30, 2015 will be required during the authentication process.
PEPPER is an educational tool that summarizes provider-specific statistics for Medicare services that may indicate the facility would be at risk for improper payments. Providers can use the data to support internal auditing and monitoring activities. It is important for facilities to review the report for trending and outlier information. CMS uses these reports to identify facilities who have trends outside the norm to assist in targeting audit processes. The reports identify the 80th and 20th percentiles for each indicator. A rating above the 80th percentile or below the 20th percentile would be considered an outlier.
