Updated SNF Advance Beneficiary Notice Now Available

(Sept. 9, 2024) The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has updated Form CMS-10055, Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-coverage (ABN), and the accompanying instructions. This form is used to notify Medicare Fee-for-Service patients of potential financial liability before the facility provides:

• an item or service that is usually paid for by Medicare, but may not be paid for in this particular instance because it is not medically reasonable and necessary; or
• custodial care.
