CMS Holding Call on Physician Payment Rule
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is holding a conference call on the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Final Rule, which governs Medicare physician payments. The call is being held on Tues., Nov. 15th from 1:30-3 pm Eastern Time. To register for an MLN Connects call, please visit the MLN Connects Upcoming Events webpage.
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) ends the sustainable growth rate formula and moves Medicare closer to a system that pays physicians based on patient outcomes. The QPP allows clinicians to choose the best way to deliver quality care and to participate based on their practice size, specialty, location, or patient population. During this call, learn about the provisions in the recently released final rule; participants should review the rule prior to the call. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists that bill Medicare more than $30,000 a year and provide care for more than 100 Medicare patients a year are included in the QPP. The program has two tracks for these practitioners to select from: Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs) or the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). Practitioners that elect to participate in an Advanced APM through Medicare Part B may earn an incentive payment for participating in an innovative payment model. Participation in traditional Medicare Part B allows practitioners to participate in MIPS and earn performance-based payment adjustments.
The suggested audience for the call includes Medicare Part B Fee-For-Service clinicians, office managers and administrators, state and national associations that represent healthcare providers, and other stakeholders. A link to the slide presentation will be posted to the CMS event webpage prior to the call. A link to the audio recording and written transcript of this call will be posted to this webpage approximately two weeks after the call.
