Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) Resources for Nursing Homes
Electronic submission of staffing data through the Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ) is required of all Long Term Care Facilities beginning in July 2016. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiated a voluntary registration and data collection process as of Oct. 1, 2015, to allow nursing homes and vendors to test their processes prior to July and is encouraging ALL nursing homes to register to submit data in preparation of the new requirement. Providers are experiencing varying degrees of success with the registration and submission process and have many questions.
LeadingAge (National) has set up a listserv that will provide an opportunity for discussion and the exchange of information among members across the nation already participating in the voluntary collection and submission of data and those who are beginning the process. It will also be a forum / central location for PBJ-related updates and for questions for CMS and the posting of responses received. We encourage nursing homes to subscribe to the listserv by visiting my.leadingage.org and clicking “My Subscriptions” under the “Your Info” section.
CMS information on the initiative is available on the PBJ website which includes a helpful Frequently Asked Questions document.
PBJ Training Modules that provide an introduction to the PBJ system and step by step registration instructions can be accessed on QTSO e-University by selecting the PBJ option
