OMIG Issues Compliance Tool
The Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) is providing another resource for providers and managed care plans to assist in their compliance efforts. It focuses on provisions of Part 521 of Social Services regulations that were updated toward the end of 2022. The tool allows providers or plans to audit their compliance with regulatory requirements by laying out the regulations and providing a series of prompts that walk through each requirement. The tool complements the guidance document issued in January.
Members may recall that the final regulations updated OMIG compliance program requirements; revised OMIG's Medicaid overpayment self-disclosure process; and implemented requirements for Medicaid managed care plan fraud, waste, and abuse prevention programs. A summary of the provisions is available here. We encourage members to review the tool and to visit OMIG's Compliance Library for additional information. Members will have the opportunity to delve into the details of these requirements and get questions addressed when OMIG staff present at the LeadingAge NY Financial Professionals Conference on Sept. 11th.
