Nursing Home Rates

DOH continues to analyze the statewide fiscal impact of Case Mix Index (CMI) changes from January to July 2012. It remains unclear when January 2013 rates reflecting the CMI from the July 2012 "picture date" will be issued. DOH has also not announced whether CMI increases will be capped when those rates are first calculated. At this time homes are still receiving rates based on their January 2012 picture date. Eventually, rates for the first half of 2013 will be updated to reflect the July 2012 picture date CMI while rates for the second half of 2013 will be based on the January 2013 picture date.

DOH reports that they are seeing a statewide increase in CMI of about 2.5 percent from January to July 2012 with 160 homes reporting an increase exceeding five percent. The department is working on 2014 capital and operating notice rates that they intend to publish in early November. These 2014 notice rates will still be calculated using the January 2012 CMI.
