CMS Accepting Applications for New Advanced Bundled Payments Round
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is accepting applications from Medicare-enrolled providers, suppliers, and Medicare Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) to participate in the two-year extension of the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Advanced Model.
The BPCI Advanced Model pays for episodes of care and tests whether this payment arrangement encourages health care providers to improve care coordination and reduce expenditures, while maintaining or improving the quality of care.
This application round – Model Year 7 – allows for additional testing from Jan. 1, 2024 through Dec. 31, 2025. The application deadline is Wed., May 31, 2023 at 5 p.m. The Request for Applications (RFA) and supporting materials can be found here.
The BPCI Advanced Model’s extension will incorporate and test improvements to help inform future bundled payment models, including:
- Adjustments to the payment methodology to achieve a balance between Medicare savings and preserving incentives for model participation.
- Requiring new Convener Participants to be Medicare providers or suppliers, or Medicare Accountable Care Organizations.
- Additional technical assistance to help new and returning participants understand the data and requirements of the Model.
CMS is hosting a virtual webinar on Thurs., March 9, 2023 from 2 to 3 p.m. to provide an overview of the BPCI Advanced Model and the new application opportunity for the two-year extension. Registration is available here.
For questions or further inquiries, please contact the BPCI Advanced Model Team at BPCIAdvanced@cms.hhs.gov.
