Action Alert: Tell Congress Funding Freeze Must Stop Immediately!

(Jan. 28, 2025) Based on a directive issued by the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), federal funding has been paused for a large number of programs as of 5 p.m. today, Jan. 28th. The Trump Administration, via OMB, issued a memo mandating a “temporary pause of agency grant, loan and other financial assistance programs” that, according to the document, carry out the mandate provided to the Administration by the election “to increase the impact of every federal taxpayer dollar” and, among other goals, end “‘wokeness’ and the weaponization of government.” During the pause, agencies will review all programs as directed by the memo to ascertain those that are consistent with President Trump’s policies and requirements.

Specifics as to how this program will be executed, aside from saying that agencies are to respond to OMB by Feb. 7th, are scant. However, the directive casts a very wide net across federal funding and is a significant concern. The memo could potentially impact funding that many LeadingAge members rely on to serve older adults across many care settings and community types.

Because of the significant confusion and concern about the directive’s impact, please ask your federal officials to urge President Trump to immediately stop the pause! The link to the LeadingAge action alert with additional information is here. Please do not delay.
