DOH Circulates CDC Health Alert Regarding Marburg Virus Disease
(Oct. 14, 2024) Last week, the Department of Health (DOH) circulated this Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Health Alert Network (HAN) message, coupled with NY-specific information regarding the current outbreak of Marburg virus disease in the Republic of Rwanda. While there were no cases outside of Rwanda when they sent this message on Oct. 10th, DOH is informing the health care community about the situation, and to be aware of and prepared for potential travelers from Rwanda who may seek health care. Additionally, it should be noted that the CDC currently recommends furlough for health care workers returning from Rwanda for 21 days after their last presence in a health care facility in Rwanda. More information is available here.
