Webinar Resources Now Available for DOH's Hospice in the Nursing Home Presentations

(April 1, 2025) The NYS Department of Health, along with Karen Lipson of LeadingAge NY and Jeanne Chirico of the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of NYS, presented a webinar entitled Hospice in the Nursing Home - Parts 1 & 2

Part 1 of the webinar was prerecorded and is located on the DOH Learning Management System. It provides a regulatory background for delivering such care in the nursing home, including an overview of DOH Form 5778 relating to the reporting of services unrelated to hospice.

The Department provided a live webinar of Part 2 of the series on March 26th. This included a brief overview of current regulation and guidance on the subject, as well as a deeper presentation offering case studies of residents potentially needing hospice services in the nursing home.  Presenters shared requirements of both nursing home and hospice providers, and best practices, considerations and suggestions when facilitating hospice services to individuals at end of life.

LeadingAge New York members are encouraged to access Part 1 and 2 of Hospice in the Nursing Home. The recording and course materials for this 2-part series are located on the Learning Management System under Course Number OALTC-541 - Hospice in the Nursing Home. As a reminder, learners must complete Part 1 before completing Part 2.
