It's Time to Prepare for the 2024-2025 Respiratory Season
(Aug. 6, 2024) To assist in preparing for the forthcoming fall and winter virus season, the Department of Health (DOH) is encouraging long-term care providers to visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Vaccines and Immunizations webpage. Of note, the page details COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) product summaries. Just last month, the CDC recommended the updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccines and the updated 2024-2025 flu vaccines and updated its RSV vaccination recommendation for older adults, recommending a single dose of RSV vaccine to:
- adults ages 75 and older; and
- adults ages 60 to 74 at increased risk of severe RSV disease, including those with chronic medical conditions such as heart or lung disease and those living in long-term care facilities.
The CDC is a key source of the latest guidance for long-term care providers and provides concise guidance on testing, treatment, infection prevention, and frequently asked questions. It is DOH's hope that this information proves helpful to providers to ensure successful ordering and offering of these vaccines to vulnerable adults this respiratory season.
