DOH Webinar Now Available on LMS: Improving Safety Around Psychotropic Medications in Long-Term Care

(June 17, 2025) The Department of Health (DOH) Office of Aging and Long-Term Care's (OALTC) Center for Residential Surveillance, in collaboration with IPRO, recently hosted an important educational webinar, Psychotropics & Residents of Facilities – Improving Safety and Reducing Unnecessary Medications.

This session is now available for on-demand viewing and is highly recommended for long-term care staff, administrators, clinical teams, and anyone involved in medication management in residential care settings.

Key Learning Objectives

​​​​​​​By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • understand recent revisions in the State Operations Manual related to psychotropic medication use.
  • identify non-pharmacological alternatives that should be considered before initiating psychotropic medications.
  • apply best practices for gradual dose reduction and tapering strategies.
  • comprehend regulatory requirements for informed consent before starting or increasing psychotropic drugs.
