DOH Issues DAL Regarding New Nursing Home Five-Star Rating Posting Requirement
(March 4, 2025) The Department of Health (DOH) recently issued a Dear Administrator Letter (DAL) regarding the new nursing home Five-Star rating posting requirement. Effective Dec. 26, 2024, Public Health Law (PHL) § 2808-e(2) requires that each nursing home conspicuously post both within the facility and on the facility’s website the facility’s overall “star” rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that reflect the facility’s ratings for health, staffing, and quality measures. This enhances the ability of residents and prospective residents and their families to explore comprehensive comparative information, especially in times of crisis.
In order to monitor compliance with this requirement, DOH will generate outreach to each nursing home throughout each calendar year. Facilities will be provided with a survey link to share their website and an ability to upload a photograph to demonstrate compliance with the posting requirement.
Questions regarding the DAL may be emailed to the DOH Division of Nursing Home and Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) Surveillance at nhinfo@health.ny.gov.
