DOH Announces LGBT and HIV Bill of Rights Training
(July 23, 2024) The Department of Health (DOH) will be releasing a webinar next month for nursing homes and adult care facilities (ACFs) that will enable them to comply with the training requirement of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT), and HIV bill of rights law enacted in 2023. The law requires nursing homes and ACFs to ensure that at least once every two years, every staff member who works directly with residents receives training on cultural competency focusing on residents who identify as LGBT and residents living with HIV. The 90-minute webinar will provide an overview of the bill of rights, which seeks to prevent discrimination on the basis of actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity expression, and HIV status.
The initial screening will be presented live on Aug. 14, 2024 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. A recording will be posted on the Department's Learning Management System (LMS) after the initial release. To register for the live presentation, which will be hosted on the AIDS Institute's training system, complete the following steps:
- Click here;
- Create a user account;
- Insert "The Family Center, Inc." in the "Site" field and click "Search";
- Click on "Select" next to "Bill of Rights for Long Term Care Facility Residents" in the course field.
The recording will be posted on the Department's LMS here. This is a different system from the AIDS Institute system, and a separate user account must be created to access this system. To create a user account in this system, click on "New to the system? Register Here."
In order to get credit for the training and receive a certificate of completion, participants must complete the survey at the conclusion of the webinar. Facilities will have to collect the certificates of completion in order to maintain a record of the staff who have completed the training.
