LeadingAge NY Working on Several Fronts to Address Workforce Shortages In the past week, LeadingAge NY has written to the Governor's Secretary for Health and the DOH Executive Deputy Commissioner on staffing issues, presented to the Public Health and Health Planning Council, and reached out to high-level DOH staff about federal strike team and infrastructure project funding for nursing homes. LeadingAge NY is also convening a joint cabinet workforce task force.

Reminder to Nursing Homes: New Requirements Apply to Facility-Initiated Transfers and Discharges Under the legislation, facilities are prohibited from initiating a discharge or transfer, except when necessary for the resident’s health, safety, or welfare or the health, safety, or welfare of other residents; when the facility is closing; or when the resident has failed to pay for his or her stay. Nursing homes may also transfer or discharge a resident because the resident does not need residential health care facility services or when the resident's transfer or discharge is initiated by the resident or his or her representative.

PHHPC Committee to Discuss Proposed Nursing Home Transfer of Ownership Regulations The draft regulations, to be discussed at the Sept. 23rd meeting of the Public Health and Health Planning Council's Committee on Codes, Regulation, and Legislation, address the character and competence component of the Council's evaluation of applications to establish and transfer ownership of nursing homes.
