Contribute to Recommendations for the Next Statewide Affordable Housing Plan

(Aug. 25, 2026) The NY Housing Conference (NYHC) is engaging stakeholders to develop recommendations for the next statewide, five-year affordable housing spending plan and has launched this brief survey to help solicit feedback. LeadingAge NY provider members and business partners are encouraged to complete the survey and share it with their networks to help drive recommendations for investments in affordable senior housing in the next plan.

This is the last year of funding for the State’s five-year capital spending plan for affordable housing purposes, which included $300 million for senior housing purposes among other investments, making it a crucial time to influence what’s in the next plan – which is expected to be negotiated during the 2027 state budget cycle – and to shape an affordable housing policy agenda moving forward.

In response, NYHC has launched a new initiative, New York’s Next Affordable Housing Plan. This is a statewide engagement strategy in which LeadingAge NY is participating to identify the greatest housing challenges facing communities in every region, develop recommendations for the State’s next housing plan, and help shape a long-term affordable housing policy agenda in Albany.

As part of this initiative, NYHC hosted six virtual convenings across the state, organized by geography, and is now asking affordable housing stakeholders to take 30 minutes to complete its Survey on Affordable Housing Needs and share it with their networks. This input will be vital in helping to develop recommendations that reflect the unique housing needs across NYS.

LeadingAge NY supports collaboration on this effort to help create a larger platform for messaging about the importance of senior housing with appropriate services within the full scope of the State’s investments, not-for-profit operators, and housing that supports aging well across the lifespan. The association will continue to work with NYHC on this effort and to share opportunities for organizations to engage directly.
