Supportive Housing Included in Medicaid Waiver Application
One of the proposals included in the State’s amendment to an existing Medicaid Section 1115
waiver, was an allocation of $150 million annually, totaling $750 million over five years, to
expand access to supportive housing services. Under this proposal, two programs would be
created – the Supportive Housing Capital Expansion Program, totaling $75 million annually, to
fund capital projects, and the Supportive Housing Services Program, totaling $75 million
annually, to provide supportive housing services.
Funds for the Supportive Housing Capital Expansion Program would be distributed through
state and local housing agencies to build an estimated 600 new units annually totaling 3,000
units over the next five years.
The Supportive Housing Services Program would work in coordination with the Supportive
Housing Capital Expansion Program. Funds may be used for various supportive housing
services, including: crisis management, case management, care coordination services,
entitlement advocacy and help with legal issues.
Among those eligible to live in these proposed supportive housing programs, are the frail
elderly who are at risk for harm or neglect.
