LeadingAge National Releases HUD Shutdown Contingency Plan for MFH Providers

LeadingAge National has developed a resource to help multifamily housing (MFH) providers prepare for – and make it through – a potential lapse in funding and operations under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As background, if members of Congress cannot reach an agreement to keep federal programs funded past the beginning of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 on Oct. 1st, there may be a temporary lapse in appropriations – also called a “shutdown.”

Many actions critical for HUD MFH programs would be impacted by a lapse in funding for HUD, including routine asset management processing, funding, grants, fair housing, Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) inspections, and more. The LeadingAge members-only resource outlines:

  • general HUD staffing updates during a lapse in appropriations;
  • HUD operations during a lapse;
  • a summary of MFH activities that will continue and activities that will cease during a lapse; and
  • actions that providers can and should take to prepare.

LeadingAge is committed to working with its affordable senior housing provider members as congressional funding debates continue. Learn more and access the members-only resource here.
