FCC Boosts Internet Subsidy; HUD Recommits to Enrolling Residents

On Aug. 28th, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a new partnership to urge HUD-assisted residents to enroll in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

The ACP can provide a monthly discount toward internet service for eligible households, and participating households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 but less than $50 toward the purchase price. While the monthly discount was previously capped at $30, the FCC raised it to up to $75 for households in high-cost areas as of Aug. 3rd.

HUD confirmed on Aug. 28th that it is still working with the FCC to streamline enrollment in the ACP for HUD multifamily residents through data-sharing agreements that currently help reduce paperwork for voucher holders and public housing residents.
