ACTION ALERT: Protect and Expand Affordable Senior Housing Funding

On June 15th, the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations approved Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 funding allocations at levels well below FY 2022 levels for most subcommittees. For the Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (THUD), the FY 2024 allocation of $65.2 billion is 26 percent below the FY 2022 allocation of $88.6 billion.

At these funding levels, it is unclear whether the THUD Subcommittee will be able to develop a bill that can garner the votes necessary to pass the House. Because most funding appropriated to HUD each year is used to pay for existing housing subsidies, any bill that operates within the reduced $65.2 billion appropriation will undoubtedly result in significant housing subsidy contract cuts.

LeadingAge National urges aging services stakeholders to continue to respond to a new action alert to protect and expand affordable senior housing funding.
