HUD stated at LeadingAge’s Leadership Summit that they hoped to publish Service Coordinator grant renewal guidance by the end of April, with payment expected in July or August. However, HOTMA implementation – currently set for July 1^st – will need to be delayed.

By one estimate, there are 13 sanctuary states and 220 sanctuary cities in the U.S. Whether these jurisdictions will lose their congressionally authorized and appropriated HUD grants is unclear.

In all, HUD says the new site features a 90 percent reduction in content from the previous website. Members who cannot find information they regularly or periodically need for the administration of their housing are encouraged to report their experience to LeadingAge.

The new limits, effective April 1, 2025, determine eligibility for assisted housing programs, including project-based Section 8 and Section 202, as well as for public housing and Housing Choice Vouchers.

LeadingAge anticipates that the proposed policy changes and staffing cuts will impact its affordable senior housing provider members and is committed to continued advocacy to ensure that all older adults have access to stable, affordable housing.

The nationwide association of mission-driven aging services providers is calling on HUD to retain the workforce and distribute the funding needed to maintain stability in affordable senior housing and has urged the Office of Management and Budget to continue vital equal access rules for older adults who rely on these programs.

Tell DOGE to stop its attempts to gut HUD and roll back critical housing protections, which will inevitably worsen the housing and homelessness crises for older adults and all New Yorkers.
