2024 Advocacy Day
Thank you to all members and advocates that joined us for our 2024 Advocacy Day in Albany on Jan.30th! The day was a great success, with nearly 100 advocates coming together to attend over 90 meetings with state legislators in just one day. We saw first-hand how impactful your stories were with legislative offices, and having you be a part of our budget advocacy is critical.Thank you for lending your voices to our unified efforts!!
There are still several weeks left until a final budget for State Fiscal Year 2024-25 is due, and we will need to keep the pressure on elected officials to provide necessary funding and support to long-term care and aging services providers! We expect to see the Senate and Assembly put forth their one-house budget proposals some time in mid-March, and a final budget will be agreed upon some time in early April. It is vital that we use these next few weeks to keep the pressure on state legislators and urge them to provide INVESTMENTS in their one-house budget proposals, rather than the CUTS that have been proposed by the Governor.
To ensure that members are familiar with what is in the SFY 2024-25 Executive Budget Proposal and details of our 2024 Advocacy Day, LeadingAge NY hosted a Budget and Advocacy Day Prep Call on Fri., Jan. 26th. During this call, LeadingAge NY policy staff reviewed the Executive Budget Proposal’s potential impact on members and related budget advocacy materials/messaging. While the beginning of the call focused on advocacy day logistics that are no longer relevant, the second half of the call remains valuable for any members interested in hearing about our top 2024 budget priorities and ways you can speak to your legisaltors about the Governor's proposals.
Importantly, our service-line budget issue briefs linked below also remain relevant, and should be shared with your state legislators if you have not already done so! Find your legislators here, and take a moment to send the materials to their offices, adding any context of your own organization's challenges and financial concerns.
The lack of LTC investment reflected in the Executive Budget Proposal highlights the need for as many LeadingAge NY members as possible to join us in budget advocacy this year! We hope that you, your colleagues, and your network of advocates can lend your voice to our efforts!
Thank you in advance for your participation in our Advocacy Day efforts; and please let us know if you have any questions!
