Urge Congress to Oppose Implementation of Federal Nursing Home Staffing Standards!

In response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) proposed nursing home staffing mandates, Congress has introduced the Protecting Rural Seniors Access to Care Act (HR 5796). While the bill title pointedly speaks to the circumstances of rural providers, in effect, this bill would prevent the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from implementing the out-of-touch proposed staffing rule. It would also require annual analysis and recommendations by a new advisory committee on the nursing home workforce shortage. The bill currently has one co-sponsor from NY, Claudia Tenney, in the House of Representatives and no Senate companion bill.

Members are strongly encouraged to TAKE ACTION TODAY by urging your House representative to support and co-sponsor the bill, and urging Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to introduce a companion bill in the Senate! You can contact the Senators and your Representative by entering your information on the digital advocacy letter titled “Tell Congress: Let’s Get Nursing Home Staffing Right and Support HR 5796.” The digital advocacy letter is available here. It only takes a few clicks!

Thank you for taking action!
