LeadingAge NY Staff and Members Attend 2023 National Leadership Summit
LeadingAge NY staff and members attended the LeadingAge National Leadership Summit held in person at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC last week. Featuring education, networking, and federal advocacy opportunities, the event provided not-for-profit senior service providers and business partners from across the nation the opportunity to hear from experts – and each other – on shared challenges and potential solutions to issues affecting the spectrum of senior care.
The second annual Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) Health and Housing Symposium kicked off the programming on Sun., April 16th with a focus on digital equity. Throughout the Summit, workforce challenges remained top of mind for attendees, with several sessions providing fresh recommendations on how to attract new staff, leverage existing staff, and create more welcoming work environments for all employees. Additionally, LeadingAge National policy staff and U.S. agency officials provided issue-focused policy updates with insights into forthcoming actions and priorities.
For senior housing providers, upcoming funding opportunities highlighted by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) staff at the Summit included $1 billion in grants and loans from the new Green and Resilient Retrofit Program, notices of funding opportunity for new Section 811 housing and new service coordinators, tenant education and outreach funds, and funds to increase Project Rental Assistance Contract (PRAC) rents prior to Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) conversion.
On Wed., April 19th, LeadingAge National held its in-person coordinated Lobby Day effort. LeadingAge NY and a group of member providers and advocates met with 11 U.S. Senate and House offices in just one afternoon to discuss issues relating to workforce, underfunding, and issues like eliminating the three-day hospital stay requirement.
