Deadline Reminder: Nurses Across NY Loan Repayment Applications Due Aug. 22nd
(Aug. 6, 2024) LeadingAge NY members should note that the NYS Nurses Across NY Loan Repayment Program application deadline is quickly approaching. Applications are due by Aug. 22, 2024 at 4 p.m. ET.
The initiative is designed to place registered professional nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in underserved communities, in a variety of settings and specialties, to care for NY's diverse population. The Nurses Across NY Loan Repayment Program makes funds available to help recruit and retain RNs and LPNs and encourage them to serve in medically underserved areas of the state. Funding is provided in exchange for a nurse’s commitment to work in an underserved area for a three-year period.
The Solicitation of Interest (SOI) issued on July 10, 2024 seeks to address the nursing shortage and is the second funding opportunity issued by the NYS Department of Health (DOH) for the Nurses Across NY Loan Repayment Program. Each new funding opportunity is defined as a new cycle. Cycle 2 SOI awards will provide up to: (1) $25,000 for an RN or (2) $10,000 for an LPN who agrees to practice in an underserved area for the three-year Nurses Across NY service obligation period. The Nurses Across NY service obligation period is defined as the total service (full-time provision of direct patient care) that an individual agrees to serve upon accepting a Nurses Across NY Loan Repayment grant award contract.
A maximum of $3 million is currently available under the SOI. It is expected that 80 percent of the funding will be awarded to RNs and 20 percent of the funding will be awarded to LPNs. Distribution of funding may be amended based on the pool of applications received. If additional funds become available, DOH may make additional awards to qualified applicants until funding is exhausted.
