LeadingAge Launches New Health Information Exchange Resources for LTPAC Providers
The LeadingAge Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST) has released a new CAST Health Information Exchange (HIE) Selection Tool for Long-Term and Post-Acute Care (LTPAC). New York is fortunate to have a publicly funded HIE in the form of regional Qualified Entities (QEs) and the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY). Some of New York's QEs are included in the CAST Selection Tool. In addition to these QEs, proprietary information exchange networks and entities are proliferating, a result of the ever-growing availability of secure electronic data transfer.
To help LTPAC providers understand and leverage the opportunities posed by HIE, LeadingAge CAST has launched the HIE Selection Tool, a multi-part resource that will help the LTPAC sector understand, plan for, select, and implement those technology solutions best suited to meet their needs.
The resource includes five elements:
- White Paper, an in-depth primer and provider selection guide.
- Interactive Guide, a high-level summary of the white paper.
- Online Selection Tool, comparing 32 HIE entities/networks.
- Selection Matrix, comparing in detail 32 HIE entities/networks.
- Case Studies, three case studies to help organizations learn from others’ experiences.
To create this valuable portfolio, CAST’s HIE Workgroup, consisting of providers, vendors, and consultants, compiled a list of HIE products that currently serve the LTPAC market, as well as a list of functionalities and capabilities. CAST conducted this work in partnership with the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC).
These HIE resources join a growing array of technology resources on the CAST website, including, among others:
- EHR Selection Tool
- Telehealth Selection Tool
- Medication Management Selection Tool
- Safety Technology Selection Tool
- Shared Care Planning and Coordination Selection Tool
Members are encouraged to use these resources to inform their deployment of technology to enhance their services.
