Respiratory Virus Tracker: Weekly Surveillance Reports for Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV in NYS
(Oct. 31, 2025) As respiratory virus season intensifies, timely and accurate data is essential for health care providers, public health officials, and long-term care facilities. The NYS Department of Health (DOH) Bureau of Communicable Disease Control continues to deliver critical insights through its weekly statewide viral respiratory surveillance report, covering influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
This data helps facilities anticipate surges, adjust infection control protocols, and inform staff and resident safety measures. From October through May, the surveillance report tracks:
- Virus activity trends across regions
- Hospitalization and testing data
- Outbreaks and public health alerts
- Comparative analysis of circulating strains and seasonal patterns
For long-term care providers and health care educators, this report is a vital tool for:
- Risk assessment and outbreak preparedness
- Staff education and communication
- Regulatory compliance and reporting
- Strategic planning for vaccination and mitigation efforts
By integrating these insights into daily operations, facilities can better protect vulnerable populations and respond proactively to emerging threats.
Facilities can access the report through two primary channels:
- DOH website
- Via the Health Commerce System (HCS)
- Log in using your HCS credentials.
- Select “Content” from the top menu.
- Navigate to “Documents by Group” > “NYSDOH” > “Diseases and Conditions” > “Respiratory” > “Surveillance” > “Weekly Reports 2025–26.”
