DataPoint: Senior Population Trends

New York State’s 65+ population is expected to increase by 16 percent from 2010 to 2020. The aging population is predicted to see an increase of close to 500,000 New Yorkers by 2020. The large increase in retirement age adults represents 156 percent of the total population growth in the entire state over the ten-year period. Further projections to 2025 indicate that the over 65 population will be 23 percent higher than in 2010 as more Baby Boomers reach retirement age.
