DataPoint: On-time State Budgets

This year marks the end of a string of buzzer-beating state budgets. Since 2000, eight New York State budgets have been approved prior to the conclusion of the fiscal year. During Governor Cuomo's tenure, each budget has been approved on-time or within a few hours of the deadline. From 2000 to 2010, before Governor Cuomo assumed office, more than 70 percent of state budgets were signed after the April 1st deadline. This was also a common occurrence in the 1980s and 1990s.
