DataPoint: Nursing Home Case Mix Trends

The median statewide Medicaid-only Case Mix Index (CMI) increased by three percent in the 12 month period, ending January 2014 to 1.04. Median NYC Medicaid CMI stood at 1.12 at the start of 2014 and was 1.00 in the rest of the State. Although a similar percentage of voluntary homes (62 percent) as for-profit home (66 percent) saw their CMI increase in the 12 month period, the median CMI of for-profit homes resulting from January 2014 roster data remained notably higher at 1.11 than the CMI reported by voluntary homes which stood at .96.  The LeadingAge NY CMI benchmarker allows comparisons of individual home CMI to regional and sponsor-based benchmarks and is available on the LeadingAge NY Data Page.
