Median private pay utilization, which provides a better measure of what individual homes experience, stood at 6.3 percent of all resident days statewide, down from 6.6 percent in 2016 and 6.8 percent in 2015, based on Residential Health Care Facility (RHCF) cost report information obtained from the Department of Health (DOH). The Central New York region reported the highest regional private pay median of 13 percent, followed by the Rochester and Buffalo regions, with median private pay utilization of 11.3 percent and 10.6 percent, respectively. The lowest private pay utilization was in New York City (1.6 percent of overall days).
