DataPoint: Market Cost of Long Term Care

Nationally, the cost of private pay assisted living increased by 1.5 percent from 2013 to 2014, lower than the 4.3 percent annual average increase during the last five years. The cost of a home health aide increased 1.6 percent since 2013, a bit more than the 1.3 percent five year annual average. The average private pay rate for nursing home care jumped 4.4 percent, similar to the 4.2 percent five year annual average. New York State experienced increases from 2013 to 2014 similar to those seen on the national level, although the average assisted living cost rose by 4 percent in the State. 

In areas surrounding New York City, daily cost for home health aides averaged $144, adult day health care averaged $80, while the average assisted living private rate was $174. Nursing home care in a private room averaged $421.
