Where To Find Your Free COVID-19 Vaccine This Season
(Oct. 8, 2024) In a recently released fact sheet, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that most people can get COVID-19 vaccines at no cost through their private health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid plans. However, adults without health insurance or with insurance that doesn’t cover all COVID-19 vaccine costs may still be able to find a free COVID-19 vaccine. CDC is providing new funding for 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccines for public health departments. Those without coverage should contact their local health department to ask if they have free COVID-19 vaccines available. Alternatively, HRSA-supported Health Centers offer vaccinations with fees indexed to income and family size. A Health Center locator is available here. The CDC fact sheet itself is here.
Nursing home providers should keep in mind that Medicare Part B covers influenza, pneumococcal, and COVID-19 vaccines for their residents while respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines are covered by Medicare Part D. A fact sheet from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that provides billing guidance is available here.
Providers can find information on Medicaid coverage of Coronavirus disease services in a special edition of the Medicaid Update available here.
