Until Further Notice, Health Care Personnel and Staff Should Adhere to CDC Travel Recommendations Post-State PHE
With the end of the State Public Health Emergency (PHE), the State travel guidance has been rescinded. LeadingAge NY believes that there are no State requirements for unvaccinated, not recently recovered health care personnel (HCP), but we are awaiting confirmation of this. At this time, providers may follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance pertaining to the general public here and here.
CDC Domestic Travel Recommendations:
Unvaccinated People After Domestic Travel:
- Get tested with a viral test three to five days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full seven days after travel.
- Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full seven days.
- If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
- If you do not get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
- Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements.
Fully vaccinated and recently recovered people do not need to test or quarantine after travel. This guidance will likely be more restrictive than the previous State travel guidance for HCP, as it includes travel to both contiguous and non-contiguous states for more than 24 hours.
CDC International Travel Recommendations:
Fully Vaccinated People After International Travel:
(Individuals who are recently recovered are not addressed in the international travel recommendations.)
- Get tested with a viral test three to five days after travel.
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
- Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements after travel.
Unvaccinated People After International Travel:
- Get tested with a viral test three to five days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full seven days after travel.
- Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full seven days.
- If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
- If you do not get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
LeadingAge NY will keep members apprised should any new travel guidance or directives be issued by the State for HCP.
