Compassionate Care Policies

The following policies, provided by LeadingAge NY members, are sample compassionate care visitation policies. Please note that these policies were developed prior to the June 1, 2021 Personal Caregiving/Compassionate Caregiving DOH regulations. Members are advised that these policies have not been endorsed or approved by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) or by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  There is no guarantee that they will pass muster with surveyors. The CMS guidance on visitation and the DOH compassionate caregiving regulations provide useful examples of compassionate care and requirements for implementing these visits. As COVID-related visitation requirements and restrictions are frequently changing, we recommend that members constantly check the LeadingAge NY website for updates. Before adopting any policy in your facility, please review and revise it to address your specific situation and circumstances.
