DOH AIDS Institute Announces Awards Under People Aging with HIV Pilot Program
The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute (DOH AI) recently announced awards under its People Aging with HIV (PAWH) pilot program. Members serving or interested in serving older adults with HIV may want to reach out to awardees to consider opportunities to partner under these grants. The intent of this funding is to support innovative program models that address barriers and needs of older adults living with HIV so that they can maintain optimal health, including, but not limited to, sustained viral suppression, improved management of comorbidities, and improved emotional health and sense of social connectedness. When looking at the statewide data of people living with diagnosed HIV (PLWDH), those over age 50 are disproportionately underrepresented when looking at the age demographics of those enrolled in DOH AI-funded programs, which speaks to an increased need for outreach to this population. Innovative approaches are defined as models of care that are novel and not widely available across New York State. Funds will support providers that develop creative, collaborative approaches using the defined service categories to meet the unique needs of this population, with a goal of reducing health disparities and health inequities. Awardees are required to provide directly or through community partnerships an array of services, including, among others, medical and non-medical case management.
