New rules address testing for residents and staff.

Most New York State nursing homes will receive free point-of-care testing instruments and test kits from CMS if they have a limited service lab registration by Sept. 30^th. Facilities with a limited service lab registration must add the specified COVID-19 antigen tests to their registrations.

LeadingAge NY is asking members to connect with resident families and encourage them to advocate with us for a more thoughtful and reasonable approach to reopening visitation.

The recommendations include a phased implementation, provisions to improve the validity of independent assessments and independent medical evaluations, a mechanism to resolve disputes between managed care plans or social services districts and the independent assessor, strict timeframes to ensure prompt enrollment and timely response to changes in condition, and accommodations for PACE programs.

Applications are due on Oct. 19, 2020, and the anticipated award date is Dec. 8, 2020.
