Wise to Lead the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs

According to the Albany Times Union, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has selected Jeffrey Wise to head the new Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Wise had been the CEO of the New York State Rehabilitation Association, which represents organizations serving the disabled. The Justice Center will take on responsibilities relating to adult care facilities that were previously conducted by the Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities (CQCAPD). The Justice Center is also charged with a variety of other responsibilities, including developing a registry of people who have abused or neglected certain vulnerable populations, developing codes of conduct, and creating a 24-hour hotline to accept complaints. DOH is working with the Justice Center, still in development and anticipated to be operational June 30, to determine how their activities and responsibilities will be coordinated.
