What does sequestration mean for us?
Members have been asking about sequestration and the impact it will have on the provider community and the seniors being served. Sequestration is a series of automatic cuts that will take effect on March 1, failing any other resolution. The White House developed state-specific fact sheets; click here to view their analysis of the impact on New York.
Under sequestration, payments to Medicare providers will be cut by two percent. Programs that help seniors stay in the community, such as HUD rental assistance and nutrition programs for seniors, will be cut significantly. The Social Security Administration will be forced to curtail service to the public, including the review of disability claims. Members can click here for further analysis from LeadingAge.
We urge you contact Congress and let them know that potential impacts to aging services deserve to be seriously considered.
