State's Minimum Nursing Home Staffing Standards Take Effect Despite Statewide Health Care Staffing Emergency The Governor extended the health care staffing emergency, but lifted the freeze on enforcement of nursing home staffing mandates. As a result, certain staffing flexibilities were continued, but nurse and aide minimum staffing levels took effect on April 1st. Health Care Staffing Emergency Extended Last week, Governor Hochul extended the Statewide Disaster Emergency Due to Healthcare Staffing Shortages through April 30, 2022. The EO extending the emergency continued regulatory flexibilities to support the delivery of health care services, but did not extend the suspension of nursing home minimum staffing and direct care spending requirements.
