Drug Safety Communication: Duragesic (Fentanyl) Patches - Packaging Changes

FDA is requiring the manufacturer to print the name and strength of the drug on the patch in a color that is easily visible to patients and caregivers. The change will allow patients and caregivers to more easily find patches on the body or if they have fallen off. The manufacturers of generic fentanyl patches will be making similar changes.

FDA is also recommending that patients remain aware that patches may fall off and may put children or pets at risk for accidental ingestion. Used patches should be folded and flushed down the toilet at the time of removal. More information is available here.
