CMS Releases Draft MDS 3.0 Item Sets Version 1.19.1

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted a draft of the new Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 Item Sets version (v) 1.19.1. The Item Sets will go into effect Oct. 1, 2024 and, along with a change document and Item Matrix, can be downloaded on the MDS 3.0 Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Manual website. The major changes to the Item Sets include the removal of functional discharge goals and a new item for resident’s COVID-19 vaccination status, reflecting necessary changes related to measures deleted and added to the Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program (SNF QRP).
