CDC Webinar: Changes to NHSN Long-Term Care Reporting Requirements for Acute Respiratory Illnesses

(Dec. 10, 2024) The current long-term care (LTC) requirements for reporting COVID-19-related data expire on Dec. 31, 2024, except for reporting COVID-19 resident and staff vaccination status. Given the utility of LTC facility data, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has finalized a requirement to replace these requirements with streamlined continued data reporting requirements for certain respiratory illnesses. They are also finalizing a requirement that LTC facilities submit additional, related data elements that could be activated in the event of a future acute respiratory illness public health emergency (PHE). CMS is not finalizing their proposal to increase data reporting if a significant threat for a PHE for an acute infectious illness exists. These regulations become effective on Jan. 1, 2025 and can be found here in detail.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be providing two webinars describing and reporting updates. NHSN LTC component: Respiratory Pathogens and Vaccination Updates will be held on Wed., Dec. 11, 2024 at 1 p.m. ET. To register in advance for this webinar, click here. There will also be a replay session of this webinar held on Tues., Jan. 7, 2025 at 1 p.m. ET. Registration for the replay session is available here.
