CDC Offers NHSN Training to Nursing Homes
(Oct. 8, 2024) Nursing home providers have one more chance to hear staff from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) review recent changes to weekly COVID-19 data reporting through the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). A webinar outlining changes to the definition of “up to date” for reporting purposes as well as recent updates to the Respiratory Pathogens module form will be replayed at 1 p.m. on Oct. 9th. Registration is required and available here.
The reporting changes went into effect on Sep 30th. As of that reporting week, individuals will be considered up to date with COVID-19 vaccination for purposes of NHSN reporting if they have received the 2024-2025 updated COVID-19 vaccine. The new definition and examples are provided here. CDC is also making changes to the form in the Respiratory Pathogens module, which nursing homes use to report resident COVID-19 data through the NHSN. The new form will include vaccination, case, and hospitalization data for COVID-19, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). COVID-19 vaccination, case, and hospitalization data are required reporting; flu and RSV reporting, while reflected on the same form, remain optional.
