In the newly issued FY 2024 SNF PPS proposed rule, CMS proposes to add current Five-Star staffing and quality measures to the SNF VBP Program. These measures, if finalized, will have a dual effect on a community’s business success, first by affecting its Five-Star ratings and second by affecting its bottom line.

CMS has released final MDS 3.0 Item Sets version 1.18.11 and the draft MDS 3.0 RAI Manual version 1.18.11 for implementation date Oct. 1, 2023.

CMS recently provided detailed information on the penalties that will be assigned to nursing homes that fail a schizophrenia MDS audit or admit to miscoding prior to the start of the audit. This clarification provides valuable information so that facilities selected for the audit can make the right decision – undergo the audit or admit to miscoding.
