CMS Issues 2024 SNF PPS Rate Correction Notice
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published a Corrections Notice in the Oct. 4 Federal Register announcing a slight change to the originally published Rural and Urban prices used in Medicare Part A reimbursement effective Oct. 1, 2023. The issue stems from an error in the hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) wage index which is the basis of the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) wage index as well. The correction to the hospital wage data required CMS to recalculate the final FY 2024 SNF PPS wage indexes. While that did not impact the previously finalized wage indexes for New York regions, it did require CMS to recalculate the budget neutrality factor to the per diem base rates. This recalculation decreased the base rates of some of the components (PT, nursing, NTA), which in turn slightly altered many of the case-mix adjusted rates. Note that no individual component changed by more than 10 cents; many remained the same or dropped by one or two cents. We have updated our PDPM Calculator and accompanying tables (click here to download) to reflect this correction.
