Upcoming Webinar for Nursing Homes: Surrogate Decision-Making Committee Overview
The Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs Surrogate Decision-Making Committee is an alternative to the court system available to make major medical consent decisions for people who have been served by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) or the Office of Mental Health (OMH) in the past; do not have the capacity to make their own decisions; and have no authorized, available, or willing surrogate. Anyone who has received decision-making services through the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee may continue to use them even if they are discharged from an OPWDD or OMH program to a nursing home. For end-of-life care, the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee is available for anyone with a diagnosis of intellectual or developmental disability.
On Thurs., March 28th from 12-1 p.m., staff from the Department of Health (DOH) Center for Residential Surveillance and Victoria Clingan, Director of the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee, will present an overview of the Surrogate Decision-Making Committee and how it intersects with nursing homes. Pre-registration is required and available here. Any questions may be sent to ltcresidentialsurvey@health.ny.gov.
